NREC's corporate headquarters is located at its main shop in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. The Mt. Vernon shop specializes in new locomotive manufacturing and all aspects of repair and restoration, from running repair to total rebuilds including paint. In addition, NREC Mt. Vernon refurbishes GE, EMD, and ALCO engines and GE power assemblies. The 30-acre facility is served by Union Pacific, CSX, and Norfolk Southern railroads.
